Powerful Self Esteem Tips

Does Powerful Self Esteem = Happiness?Powerful Self Esteem Tips

We often equate having self esteem with happiness, but is that really true?

I think so.  In fact, I’ve never met someone with powerful self esteem that wasn’t happy.  It seems as if the more you believe in yourself, the more self confidence you have, the easier it is to actually stay in a state of solid happiness.

How can I feel better about myself?

  • Give up the battle – Often we compare ourselves to an idea of what we “should be” and not what we actually are.  Nothing good will ever come of this.  It’s great to want to be more… but you won’t get there if you aren’t happy with where you are now.  Remember, being happy doesn’t mean the same thing as being complacent.  The happier you are with your current lot in the life, the faster that lot tends to  improve!
  • Retain control - Have you ever blamed someone or something else for how you feel.  I have.  Then I remember that every time I make that other person (or thing) the cause of my pain, what I’ve really done is give them the only real key to my release.  As soon as I remember the truth, that I control how I react, I’m free and happiness isn’t far behind.
  • Appreciate now – Once you’ve given up the battle (against yourself) and realized (maybe again) that you are in control of how you react… take a few minutes to appreciate it.  Really dig in and feel how great it is to finally make progress, to take steps, to gain traction.  Be thankful that you’ve created the current state of affairs and be thankful that you are creating a new path.
  • Take action (literally) – That’s right… get moving!  Take a walk.  Get a change of scenery.  Hit the gym.  Heck, you can even stretch for a few minutes to get limbered up.  Take 20 seconds and do a sit-up or two.  You’d be amazed what a little physical movement will allow.  If you don’t like your current emotional state, change your physiology.  MOVE!  You’ll trigger different emotions and you’ll be making progress out of the muck.
  • Become something more - Contribute to society.  Make a donation.  Help someone to read.  Pick up a piece of trash someone left behind.  Do something small.  The trick here is to feel part of something bigger than yourself.  Contribution can even come by starting a blog or commenting on someone’s Facebook page.  The point is to remember that you can have an impact.

Following these simple tips can open up a whole new world (or continue an already great trend).  What are your thoughts?  What other tips have you found?  Please comment, like and share!

Free Speed Reading Tools [VIDEO]

This post is fairly quick, but if you’ve ever thought about learning how to speed read… you will want to pay attention to these free tools!

For those who don’t yet know, I’ve recently revamped the original “Do It! (or Don’t)” speed reading course. It’s still free and you can find Student Study Skills Blog on the web at StudentStudySkills.com/blog/.

I’ve decided to focus that site on helping students with learning how to read faster, take better notes and get higher grades.  Long story short, that site also has a blog where I’ve recently posted a great find.

I’ve embedded the video below… feel free to visit Student Study Skills as well!

How to Get Better Results

Do you want better results?  No problem.  The answer is easy… rather… it’s simple.  If you want better results… ask better questions.

Better questions?

How To Get Better ResultsAllow me to explain.  The quality of your life is directly associated with the quality of the questions you ask yourself.  I can’t take credit for this observation (I learned it from Tony Robbins) and he’s right.  Many people wake up in the morning thinking about how crappy their day is going to be at work.

They wonder aloud…

  • “What is my boss going to shove down my throat today?”
  • “Who isn’t going to show up and leave me to do their work?”
  • “Which client is going to hang up on me during my calls?”
  • “When are they going to fix those horrible network issues?”
  • “How am I possibly going to get to work on time?”

And on… and on.

Then, those same people wonder why they are having ridiculously bad days at work.  It’s simple!  They are practically demanding their brain spend its time creating those ridiculously bad situations.  For those of you who are into the Law of Attraction, ponder this…

How would questions like those above cause you to feel?  Irritated?  Stressed?  Frustrated?  Based on the law of attraction wouldn’t you then be attracting irritation, stress and frustration?

The questions we ask ourselves are the initial triggers that cause us to create our “state of mind.”  That emotional state becomes our filter and seemingly attracts situations and events into our lives that match that state.  If we feel happy… we create more happiness.  If we feel stress… we create more stress.  Our emotional state is completely under our control (though I admit it doesn’t feel like that at times, but it’s still true).

Wouldn’t you rather feel empowered, energized and excited?  How about asking questions like…

  • “I wonder how much fun I can have at work today?”
  • “How can I make a game out of getting my work done?”
  • “What else can I do while I wait for the network to catch up with me?”
  • “I wonder what new opportunities will show up for me today?”
  • “What can I do, right now, to make sure I’m a few minutes early today?”

Asking these questions, how do you feel?  Playful? In control?  Maybe even energized a bit?

The questions we ask are commands to our brain.  Your brain is a loyal partner in the creation of your life and it will only follow you.  Your brain will never question anything on its own… only with your permission and guidance will it make a move.

Is there is an area of your life that could use improvement?  Chances are the questions you are asking yourself could use some improvement as well!

PS: Want a TOP-SECRET HINT?  Just add the word “ever” to your power question.  Instead of asking, “How can I be happy?” ask, “How can I be EVEN happier?”  You’ll find it adds a bit more power to what’s possible!

The Forest or The Seed

Are you in the forest or with the seed? This past week I was working with a friend of mine who has a tendency to get a little excited about success.  In fact, he not only gets excited… he get too excited… too early.  It causes him to skip steps and make some really poor judgment calls.  Now, don’t get me wrong.

I LOVE excitement and the energy that comes from a new project.  But, if it’s all energy and no action (or wrong action) it’ll get you nowhere fast!

My suggestion to him was to focus on…

The Forest or The Seed

Many times we find ourselves visualizing success.  We see ourselves crossing the finish line of a marathon, starting our own company or writing the perfect book.  We visualize.  We set goals.  We motivate ourselves.   We feel genuinely excited!  We build the perfect “forest” of possibility and potential.

And then we do nothing… or do the wrong things because we don’t think it through.

If you are spending your day thinking about all the great things you’ll be, do and have… you’re spending time in a forest that will only exist in your mind.  Meanwhile, the SEED stays firmly in your hand because you never took the time to plant it.

The seed is action… its work.  The seed isn’t all fun.  It’s boring at times.  Sometimes it’s downright hard!  The seed is where it all starts though.

To have a forest you must plant the seed… then…

You must water, fertilize and prune.  All of that work gives you the ability to collect more seeds which you’ll have to plant, water and fertilize.  To top it all off your running around raking up fallen leaves, pulling nasty weeds and protecting those little seedlings from insects and disease.

Every forest starts with a single seed.

This week – focus on your thoughts and actions.  Are you in an imaginary forest (thinking about how great the future is) or are you working on the very real seed you have in front of you (and taking action right now)?
